Early Period

April 1973
In 1973 the VG20 was refreshed as the VG21

Exterior changes
Improvements to safety & emissions were made
New engine released 3.4L V8 (4V)
4 New colors were added
A vent on the front bumper was added for additional airflow
Front grille grid design was changed to make the airflow better

Interior changes
Speedometer was changed as a whole unit
Radio & Climate control panel was changed
D&C Specifications got split seat & bench seat specifications

December 1973
Side markers were now changed from clear to amber to meet the safety regulations of the time.

At this time colors still were specific to the grade of the car.

322 Asuka Solemn Maroon
656 Hida Forest Green
123 Shima Radiant Silver
429 Katsura lordly brown
