In what model year were HID headlights introduced?

Post by pwooster »

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum. I'm planning on importing a G50 to Canada in the next year. I'd like to get the six-speed auto version and also the HID headlights. Does anyone know which model year got the updated headlights?

Kind regards

Hi there! I know the 6-speed was 2006 but I suspect you know that too. I think the LED tail lights were somewhere around 2004-2006 as well; I suspect the headlights happened at the same time as the tail lights?

I don't know anything more concrete, though. :(

From Amayama it looks like 2008 was the year when the headlamp bulb changes to the HID one. Same thing is also said on the ReDriven cheat sheet.

LED taillights were with the 6speed AT I think.

HIDs are also more expensive to replace/harder to source - something to consider?

Thank you both for your kind replies and resources. It looks like a 2008 model is the one I'm after! Luckily they just became legal for import to Canada this year. I'm dying to get a light blue one if I can find it.

No problem 😊. Good luck! The light blue is beautiful - the photos do not do it justice.

Only black from 2007 on?

I think (???) they still offered different colours from 2007, maybe they are just harder to find.

Here are two navy/gray examples:

January 2008
Glass cut lenses were replaced with resin ones. At the same time, the fog lights were moved to the bumper and the cornering lights were removed.
Lenses were replaced with resin ones to comply with the Japanese safety standard of the time.
