Potential red flags in the engine bay of 1999 Century

Post by caleb2656 »

Hi all,

I'm considering purchasing a 99 Century. They provided some pictures of the engine bay and I was wondering if anyone on here sees anything that sticks out as potential problems.

In the first picture I can tell this red hose is not factory. I'm wondering what function is serves?

This one I can't tell if the hose is oily or it's sort of "melted" for lack of a better word

This is just an additional photo.

Hey there! Here's a pic of mine where those hoses go - if the car is running fine then I suspect you've just got some red hose and there's nothing to worry about.

The slightly-melted hose at the back is vacuum for the brake booster - Century engines do run hot so I'm not sure I'd be too worried about that either. Maybe check for other signs of it having overheated at some point (white smoke etc!)?

Also the missing battery cover is a very common thing and I've a feeling you can buy them new from the usual sources in Japan.
