GZG50L & R Vehicles were sold in Brunei, Middle east, North Africa Regions, Europe, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand & China

These export market vehicles could reach up to 250kmh on the speedometer instead of the 180kmh on the Japanese domesticated market ones

According to Roadside News in China there are currently only two GZG50 units in mainland china. One owned by the Japanese embassy and one owned by a rich man. It was said in 1999 that the price of the GZG50 Century in mainland China had a price of 2.5 million yuan which was equivalent to a 760LI back then. The Century was drawn from being sold in the Chinese market two years later.

Toyota Motor Corporation Introduced the Welcab Version of the Century. This Specification has a modified rear left seat that rotates 90 Degrees,& the opening angle of the door was increased making it easier for people with lower limb disabilities and the elderly to get in & out. A large genuine assist grip was used to aid movement when getting on and off. Additionally, the rear rotating seat features a sliding footrest, retractable armrest and seat heater to enhance usability and hospitality.

Buying or Importing a Century? Some Advice

Importing and or buying a Century will seem to be a daunting task at first. Let me tell you what you should look out for and what area's you want to avoid. as an ex employee at a dodgy Import dealership I do have experience with R Graded Centuries and terrible condition Japanese Domesticated vehicles.

Areas you will want to avoid

Hokkaido (North Island) Cold climate centuries were sold here. While being unique in some form, they can be rough. The salt slowly but surely chips away the rust proof layer on the chassis and frame underneath. Not to mention not all houses in japan have some sort of structure to protect the vehicle from the 6 meters high snow that Hokkaido usually experiences. Paired that with an aluminum body that the Century wears it's not an ideal place to buy one.

Okinawa (Most known as Hawaii in Japan)Okinawa is very tropical, yet another place I would not recommend. Okinawa is a separate island to the main islands of Japan, that being said Okinawa is very humid and the vehicles (if not taken care of) tends to grow mold inside the vehicle especially (Wool). Again like Hokkaido vehicles they suffer the symptoms of rust on the chassis and the frame. Same with the aluminum body. Will not recommend.

Regions that are good

Kanto Region = Tokyo Area
Kyushu Region = Fukuoka/Nagasaki
Kansai Region = Osaka Area
Chūbu region = Nagoya Area

Personally would stick to these regions. These regions make up somewhat mainland japan.

Auction history is important

Before you get excited buying a Century or any vehicle from an auction or dealership please I advise you to buy an auction history report. Most reputable company would probably be CARVX. Auction Reports and grades can be forged from bribery from the owner of the vehicle to the auction house, BE WARNED. People often brush past this, and make the mistake of buying a lemon of a ''JDM'' car and complain about how stuffed it is. Usually on the FB page (I Got Screwed By Shady JDM Importers). Usually the Auction History on CARVX will tell you where the car got auctioned off from.

Frequently asked questions

Do the UCF20 Suspension Struts fit?

Yes. I would like to clarify that for coil-overs the spring rate is wrong. I would suggest to buy the GZG50 Red set off BC-Racing Europe or find some other brand on YahooJP.

As far as I know and the Manufacturers know you can use the UCF20 aftermarket air struts in your GZG50 Century.

Parking Pole The intended purpose for the rod at the front of your car is so you can see the where the front left corner of your car is. In Japan narrow alleyways and streets are everywhere. They use these rods to park & navigate around tight corners.

What are Fender Markers? Fender Markers are Exclusive to Centuries with door mirrors. they light up green at night to give you an idea where the car is positioned in the lane at night. The downside of these are the lights inside, after awhile they will dim or completely go, it's not a plug & play deal either, the light is attached to a circuit board. To get it off & on again is a bit of a waste of time. (They are still available as far as I know on part websites).

Navigation Disc's. These Disc's Changed format's, from 1997 it was CD-ROM to 2000 where they changed it to DVD-ROM. The later DVD-ROMs can be interchanged with the Lexus RX330 Navigation Disc of your countries language and maps. I believe their was support up until 2015 or so. It will translate the whole screen entirely.

To find your Navigation Box, It's located under your front passenger seat. Slide the seat backwards to reveal the box and eject the disc if you want to.

To take the box out is a hassle. Find the the location of your passenger seat bolts (Holding down the passenger seat). The front two will be found under two carpet flaps. The Rear ones are hidden. Slide the passenger seat all the way to the dashboard, There will be (matching carpeted pieces) around the seat rails (They are just held in with clips) rip both of them out and the bolts should be there. Unplug the cable holding the seat in position and undo the bolts and take the cables out of the box before removal.

Rear Curtain (Powered) Not Working? It could be the motor. The motor costs $608AUD/$400USD from Amayama, Its Placed under the parcel shelf in the middle of the Curtain Assembly. should be connected to a plug or two. Second option the rail could be out of shape. I have seen it happen to a couple of these Centuries before can be because of the heat in some climates or It could be due to your compliance shop ruining them.

Where are the Main Fuse boxes in the car?

A: Pop the bonnet & find the battery cover, pop the plastic clips off and take the battery cover off, There will be the fuse box.

B: In the drivers footwell there should be a white plastic cover, take it off to reveal another fuse box.

C: In the Boot lift up the carpet to find a removable tab to the left, take it out the fuse box should be at the back wall.

What is an ETC card reader? It's Used in Japan for Highway tolls, not too sure if it can be used in any other countries for their highways but it speaks Japanese when the car starts up. Translating to ''please insert the toll card into the reader''.

What is the Data System Controller? If you have one I would personally advise getting rid of the unit. The factory air suspension was never meant to be aired out fully or raised to ''Monster Truck height''. It will lower the life expectancy of your factory struts a lot. Yet there is one button next to your steering column to adjust the height of your Centuries air suspension to a factory specification.

The Data System Controller has a long wiring harness, its plugged into a metal box (Air Strut ECU) there should be 3 to 4 plugs in the box depending on the year of the car ( I will try and find out which controller you need for which year). The aftermarket plugs are plugged into the factory ECU and the Factory plugs are in the aftermarket wiring harness. This will let the Controller override the ECU controlling the bags.

The ECU Box is located in the drives footwell area, Take the scuff plate off & the fabric seal looking thing, next locate the two metal clips holding the upper carpet and give it a bit of a tug, there you should see the black wiring harness (If you have the controller) and the the metal ECU shroud.

It now resides at the Kanto Jidosha Kogyo Higashifuji Factory the birthplace of the Toyota Century.

The Exterior Front Grille and Rear Garnish Insignia Badge backgrounds were changed to black

I've been wondering about this for a while as I've seen pictures of Centuries with either white or black badges. And I couldn't figure out why. Knowing that these came with a reverse camera too, I might reconsider purchasing a 2010+ version instead of the older ones.
