Oil Filter Comparison Japan vs USA

Post by Eric »

FILTER SUB-ASSY, OIL
15601-68010

I think it would be interesting to compare Toyota oil filters purchased from different dealerships.

The one on the left is from a Toyota USA dealership. Filter on right is from a Toyota dealership in Japan. As you would expect they are extremely similar. Both the metal and weight and rubber gasket feel similar. But you can see there is slight differences in font brightness, and weight. Additionally, the lubricant on the filter bottom is different in color. The USA filter is light amber / honey color (fresh oil color.) The Japanese filter lubricant is black / dark grey color.

I believe both are genuine and both will do just fine to take care of our 1GZ-FE V12s. This post is more of a way to build a reference for the community.

More pictures of the two filters. Toyota USA on left and Toyota Japan on right.

The Toyota USA dealership nearby did not have any in stock. But special order they were available for pickup at the dealer within 48 hours. The parts department employee had never seen a filter this big. The order system said this only fits a Toyota Diesel Land Cruiser. He never heard of The Century before.

Interesting! I wonder if the differences were just due to one of them being much newer than the other.
